Roe v. Wade: A Case Study in the Law of Unintended Consequences
The nation is seeing yet another mass hysteria event. SCOTUS overturned Roe v. Wade, therefore returning the decision on whether to restrict abortion to the states (where it belongs). In light of the recent announcement, I would like to share how I feel about abortion.
I am pretty centrist when it comes to social issues. While I believe in the dignity of all humans, I don’t think people should be punishing the Alphabet Mafia (LGBTQ+) for who they are. I think some people are born that way. I also believe that today, since democrats and their social engineering friends, have manufactured the other 54 ‘genders,’ my personal belief is that mental illness is rampant. We see the impact of the confusion with the anxiety, depression and suicide rates of young people going through the roof. So, I won’t capitulate to their lunacy and redefine what a man or woman is on their emotional hysteria. If you want to identify as a parakeet, that’s fine…but don’t expect me to support your delusion. You live your life. I’ll live mine. And stay out of my grill about yours.
Regarding abortion, I’ve always been agnostic about it. I have thought abortion is sad and should be reduced to as few cases as possible (rape, incest, when the health of the mother is threatened, etc.), and that there should be a point when it’s clearly a baby….and that baby shouldn’t be killed unless it will kill the mother. Until the last couple years, most people agreed that it was acceptable to abort before 16 weeks. However, the radical democrat party kept publicly pushing the envelope for ‘abortion rights’ to the point where it almost looked like a Satanic Cult. They had black women clapping and smiling about the Governor Mario Cuomo backed, democrat bill titled the 2019 “Reproductive Health Act” which codified it to kill a baby up to the point of birth. It’s just sickening.
Of course, nothing would be more important than the rash of Hollywood and cultural elitists proudly announcing that they got they abortions and are super happy about it, now publicly celebrating it.
So while abortion is a terribly sad thing (and it causes the women emotional trauma after they do it) because a life is snuffed out and it should be a rarity, democrats everywhere kept smashing more and more radical, in-your-face, rhetoric about it in their never ending push to normalize it. I call it “Abortion on Demand.” Kind of like McDonald’s: “Have it YOUR way, right away!”
Imagine being as depraved as the woman in this picture. She is virtually at full-term in her pregnancy, yet in her feminist outrage, she wrote “Not Yet a Human” on her belly……
Roe v. Wade was a bad ruling and was NOT a ‘Constitutionally protected right.’ Democrats lie when they say that. It was a faulty SCOTUS ruling that even St. Ruth Bader Ginsberg (the patron saint of abortion) said was bad law. It was always vulnerable to attack from the pro-life movement, ESPECIALLY when the Lunatic Left kept pushing the limits of abortion to the max. It was bound to come crashing down.
But there is a second lesson that democrats should learn from this landmark decision to overturn Roe v. Wade: this was ONLY made possible by democrat Nevada Senator, Harry Reid (democrat Senate Majority leader during the Obama Reign of Terror).
As it unfolded, 2012 was a year when Obama was trying to ram his slate of radical Leftist federal judges through the Senate. At the time, there was an operating mechanism which the minority GOP used called a filibuster, which prevented Obama from getting his judges through. The democrat party had control of the Judiciary Committee, but they couldn’t get enough votes to appoint them as the GOP would filibuster the candidate. A 2/3 majority was required under Senate rules to appoint the judges.
Harry Reid and the democrat senate decided to ‘go nuclear’ and voted to end the filibuster, therefore allowing a simple majority to vote on the judicial candidates. I remember distinctly and publicly saying that this was a TERRIBLE precedent to set. The democrats would indeed be able to shape the judiciary while they were in control of the Senate, but there would be an equal response when they were not. Then, the GOP would have that power. I suggested that this could trigger the “Law of Unintended Consequences” that would likely result in the GOP clobbering the democrats at the first chance they got.
Alas, because St. Barack Obama was POTUS (I don’t know if you’re aware, but democrats made ‘history’ when they coronated him as the first black POTUS...), they did it anyway.
Fast forward to 2016, We the People elected Donald Trump to be the POTUS, mainly because every sane person in the nation HATES Hillary Clinton (apparently, she is currently identifying as a ‘woman’). The reason I voted for him was because he promised to secure the border, nominate Constitutional judges, and rebuild our military. One of the first things democrats started doing (besides manufacturing ‘evidence’ in the Russian Collusion Hoax) was to start discussions about reinstating the fillibuster. Funny how they work, isn’t it?
The Law of Unintended Consequences summarized is this: you may support an event that, as time passes, produces other consequences that you didn’t anticipate when you supported that event. For example, one may support having unprotected sex after a night of partying at the clubs, but the Law of Unintended Consequences may have you pregnant with a stranger’s child as a result.
Another example could be that you may choose to ignore that little light that goes on in your car when there is only 1.9 gallons of fuel remaining, but the Law of Unintended Consequences says that after 45 miles, you will end up stranded on the highway because you didn’t fill up.
Trump fulfilled his 2016 campaign promises to put forth only Constitutional scholars into the various courts. But the 2012 destruction of the filibuster EXCLUDED votes on Supreme Court justices. And the Law of Unintended Consequences was in play for democrats, much to their dismay.
Not only did democrats open Pandora’s Box by killing the Senate filibuster for Obama judicial candidates, they demonstrated that the rules only apply when they are in charge. Therefore, Trump and the GOP extended the destruction of the filibuster for judicial nominees to include the Supreme Court. In almost unbelievable luck, Trump got to pick three SCOTUS candidates (Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett).
The very thing I was warning democrats in 2012 finally came back to bite them in 2016.
And in June 2022, after 49 years and 62,000,000 unborn babies were murdered, the first conservative SCOTUS in US history overturned Roe v. Wade, returning abortion decisions to be made on the state level where they belong.
You’ll see nothing but lunatic, blue hairs screeching and hissing on your TVs for the next 4 months to be sure. I’ve already heard these same, insufferable, miserable, unhappy hags threatening that ‘this is the end of hook-up culture (this is a rare moment of honesty!). For those of you that don’t know that ‘hookup culture’ is, just know that there are smartphone apps like Tinder where all you have to do is swipe right and people get together to ‘smash’ with no commitment, then bolt.
This court decision will be the St. George Floyd moment of the 2022 mid-term elections. As I write, no doubt democrat fundraising flyers will be going out to tens of millions of democrat voters to raise money to stop the looming “Red Wave” that will “usher in a real-life Handmaid’s Tale.” It’s ironic that almost none of them every actually read “The Handmaid’s Tale,” but the feminist talking points are well known, so why would they ever actually do the work of reading it?
In the end, I can imagine that your blue states will happily serve as abortion mills for the rest of the nation and red states will have restrictions on them or ban them outright. Corporate America has already weighed in with some employers like Dick’s Sporting Goods offering a $4000 incentive to fund abortions for their employees.
Consider the intrinsic value of a life. In finance, intrinsic value is the future cash flows that an asset will produce, discounted to come up with a hard price today. We should be doing that with human lives.
Imagine being handed a baseball bat by someone who put a cardboard box in front of you. The instruction was to smash the cardboard box to bits with the bat for $4000. Would you do it?
Now imagine that there was a 6 week old puppy inside the box. Would you still do it?
In the end, no matter which side you are on abortion, know that Harry Reid and the democrats are now living with the results of decisions made while they were pile driving Leftist radicals down our throats. That is the ultimate example of the Law of Unintended Consequences.
In the 80s classic movie, “The Breakfast Club,” Vice Principal, Richard Vernon declares, “You mess with the bull, you get the horns.” If you’re going to lay blame for the destruction of the democrat Sacrament of Abortion, you can thank Harry Reid and Barack Obama. We are now seeing the fruits of their labors.
